Easy Chickpea Breakfast Chilla Bowl Recipe
The 10-Minute Breakfast That Actually Keeps You Full
Most mornings don't leave room for a real breakfast. This chickpea chilla bowl changes that — it's a savory, protein-rich crepe made from our Classic Chickpea Chilla Mix that comes together in under 10 minutes and keeps you satisfied until lunch.
Chilla (also spelled cheela) is a traditional Indian savory pancake made from chickpea flour. It's naturally gluten-free, high in plant protein, and incredibly versatile. Think of it as your new go-to breakfast base.
What You'll Need
- 1 cup Ojaswe Classic Chickpea Chilla Mix
- ¾ cup water (adjust for desired thickness)
- 1 tsp oil or ghee for the pan
Bowl Toppings (pick your favorites)
- Sliced avocado + a squeeze of lime
- Soft-boiled egg or scrambled tofu
- Cherry tomatoes + fresh cilantro
- A drizzle of your favorite hot sauce or chutney
- Plain yogurt or dairy-free alternative
Instructions
- Whisk the Chilla Mix with water until smooth. Let it rest for 2 minutes.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly oil it.
- Pour in the batter and spread into a thin, even circle. Cook 2–3 minutes until edges lift.
- Flip and cook another 1–2 minutes until golden.
- Slice into strips or quarters, place in a bowl, and pile on your toppings.
Why It Works
Chickpea flour is one of the most protein-dense plant-based flours available — about 6g of protein per serving. Paired with healthy fats from avocado and fiber from fresh vegetables, this bowl gives you sustained energy without the mid-morning crash.
